Minisink Valley rolls to third NY state duals title

Minisink Valley is the state Division I dual meet wrestling champion again.

The Warriors capped a perfect 4-0 day with a 49-13 victory over Wantagh in the championship at SRC Arena Saturday.

The wrestling team received a police escort back to Minisink Valley High School after capturing its third state title.

Joseph Uhrig (102), P.J. Duke (138), Zack Ryder (172), Andrew Filip (189), Ethan Gallo (215) and Aidan Gove (285) recorded pins over Wantagh. Luke Greiner earned a 6-4 win at 145 pounds and George Racz picked up a 10-1 victory at 160.

Minisink Valley (27-0) defeated Section 4’s Horseheads 66-6, Section 5’s Pittsford 50-12 and Starpoint 55-7.

How dominate were the Warriors? Minisink Valley won 42 of their 52 matches in the dual-meet tournament.

Uhrig, Duke, Greiner, Ryder and Gallo went 4-0. Duke and Gallo had four first-period pins.

Port Jervis lost to Tioga 65-9 and Newfane 59-11 in the Division II tournament.
